In eleven days, I'll be 28. I don't feel old, or even older (you're older than you've ever been, and now you're even older, and now you're even older...). Mostly, I feel that twenty-eight is a strange number that doesn't apply to me. Where did it come from? It just doesn't make any sense. There's no way I'm 28 (well, I'm not. Yet). It's silly.

I'm tempted to research birthday traditions from ancient history and around the world. It strikes me that I don't know how the ancient Greeks celebrated their birthdays - if at all - and that seems just wrong. I ought to know these things! ~points to classics degree~ I'll report my findings, if any one is interested.

How do I keep forgetting that your birthday is the same as mine? You also have the same birthyear as my big brother.

Over time (48 years so far) I've come to view age as a state of mind. True that eventually your body may pack-up and move to another state, but I've never dwelled on the implications of the "hope I die before I get old" mindset. For me, 28 was a blur due to my father passing away at the time. It was that event which caused me to realize that we do have a finite time to do whatever it is we want so I started doing a few things that previously were kept in the back of my mind as "maybe one day" possibilities. (I added you back after realizing my friends list was heavily skewed in the "over 40" direction and I need some other views for balance)
