NerdCon in Minneapolis this October

Oh wow, I just discovered NerdCon Stories.

I... really really really want to go to this. I would need a con buddy or two (because that's how I roll) but... wow. Just... wow. This is entirely and completely up my alley and exactly the sort of thing I love talking about, thinking about, analyzing, overanalyzing, geeking out about, squeeing about, and generally getting all excited and involved with. Anyone else really intrigued and maybe want to go?

Joesph Fink is going to be there! I could talk about the story structure of weird Night Vale episodes with Joseph Fink! (For some values of "could" which mostly amount to, I'd think about it, but probably wouldn't say anything even if I had the opportunity. But STILL!)

I can't tell what they're going for. Standing in line to gawp at pros? Egalitarian squee-fest? Something else? If it's another excuse to reinforce geek social hierarchies, that's not for me. If their politics are actually good, then...

...well, then JofCon is still the same weekend! What's up with that?

I like a lot of what Hank and John do, but I have many problems with this framing of fandom. Not to mention, it conflicts with JofCon. So, not for me. Good to know, anyway. Thanks again.

I'm not big on standing in line to gawp at pros myself, and I'm honestly not sure what this will shape up to be - it's certainly going to be a very different kind of con than WisCon, which is, uh, really the only one I've got good experiences with. Still, I'm willing to be a guinea pig and report back on how it goes. I hope you have fun with JofCon! :)
