I know when I'm beaten. I tried making a post of substance four times last night, and the power went out each time. I can take a hint (though evidently it takes a little bit of bludgeoning with the universal clue stick for it to sink it).

Yesterday was something of a grumpy day. The air conditioner in the apartment stopped working. I tried to convince myself it was just warming up to cooling things down and waited until after noon to call the office about it. By then it was sweltering in here and I had a headache. Brilliant. I was told it would take half an hour for someone to come and take a look at it. It took five times that long. Thankfully, though, it was easily fixed and things started cooling down after that.

The storm last night made me long for artistic talent. The details of it kept sucking me in, and I wanted to share them visually. The camera sucks, though, and I can't draw. I was left grasping for words to describe why I thought a reddish brown puddle rippled by raindrops and seen through the starry water-speckled screen in the office window was so beautiful. I may or may not have succeeded, as the power went out. Lots. Heh.

Speaking of artistic talent, I've started on a moderately ambitious beading project. It's really not that complex or complicated, but I deem it "moderately ambitious" because the only things I've ever beaded in the past are bobbypins and itty bitty wire animals. This venture requires a long beading needle (which I've already managed to stick in my thigh once. Yeeeeowch!), a stitch named after a drug (peyote), and the ability to follow a pattern. I've been having tremendous fun with it, actually. I've got a book filled with helpful suggestions like "when you need to add in thread, be sure to hide the ends invisibly" (but how you worthless wench of an author? How?!) which I've been mostly ignoring, and despite a few minor mishaps (primarily involving the cats getting really interested in the thread or the neat rattly boxes of beads) I've been having a really good time. It's fun for me to see something like this developing under my clumsy fingertips, and it's something I can do and read or watch a DVD. Admittedly that doesn't lend itself to not grabbing the wrong color seed bead or messing something else up, but it's all good. When I have something worth taking pictures of, I'll do so.

I'm going to try to catch up on reading today, and work on some story notes. I had an idea early this morning for a short story that I think is worth exploring. I hope everyone else has a great day.

Drat; I would have liked to have seen that entry. You did a very nice job on the puddle in this one. :}

>>>The storm last night made me long for artistic talent

Do you realize that you have the power to convey your words on a different kind of canvas...one that jumps and becomes alive from the perspective of your mind.

Do you know that you have TREMENDOUS talent?

You have the gift to animate words into visual pictures...

Not just fantasy worlds, but tangible worlds that bleed and cry like a crescent moon...

The crescent moon is absent from the sky,
a lone fox howls a far away cry.
Can you hear it beneath your star speckled screen?
No, it wasn't a dream.
It was just us down on the manatee,
daddy the critters and I,
wishing you love and florida starlight to compose by...
