cislyn: (booky)
[personal profile] cislyn
I've been a little quiet lately. I suppose part of that is because I've been exceedingly social in other areas. I've also been taking time to just think. I've been thinking about possibly going back to school (possibly), thinking about moving, thinking about relationships, thinking about politics, thinking about escapism (and why I haven't been doing so much of it lately - reality has been rather captivating, actually. Fancy that), thinking about trips and vacations and plans for the future. Lots of thinking going on. We're officially completely utterly debt-free now, which is amazingly nice.

Local folks: I'm home all the time, but usually without any transportation. Weekdays anytime between 8 in the morning (kumquat help me, but I really am up that early - earlier actually, to see Todd off) and 4 in the afternoon, I'm free as some fluffy little free thing. If you want to get together, you provide the car, I provide the Cislyn, and we can do lunch sometime or something, yes? But probably not next week. Hopefully next week I'll be in Pennsylvania. We shall see. I need to call my aunt this afternoon, actually. I understood that she was going to call me yesterday, but perhaps she thought I was supposed to call her. Either way, there was no calling going on.

I'm going to finish up Waifs and Strays today. What next, she asked?

Edit: Gaaah. Yes, I put Counterfeit Unrealities in there twice - this is what happens when you're a goof and there are that many books on your desk. If you would like me to read that one, please to be choosing the first one of it, k? Thanks. :)

i answered 'don't read, write' because it's generally good advice. honestly, i was impressed by the caliber of your stash. i would read either:

Counterfeit Unrealities - anything by pk dick is worth a good try.
Rheinegold - based solely on name. in reality i'd read the blurb on the back and do some page flipping.
The Ghatti's Tale - see above.

"Black Sun: The Brief Transit and Violent Eclipse of Harry Crosby"
Harry Crosby was the godson of J. P. Morgan and a friend of Ernest Hemingway. Living in Paris in the 1920s and directing the Black Sun Press, which published the works of James Joyce and others, Crosby was at the center of the wild life of the Lost Generation. Drugs, drink, sex, gambling, the deliberate derangement of the senses in the pursuit of transcendent revelation: these were Crosby's pastimes until, in 1929, he shot his girlfriend, the recent bride of another man, and then himself. This biography is an engrossing saga of a brilliant but self-destructive socialite from a fascinating and complex time.

I dunno if I've recommended it before, but CJ Cherryh's Foreigner novels are really excellent. Foreigner is the first.
