I've been on a little bit of a booky rampage the past week or so.

Finished:
* Angry Candy by Harlan Ellison. I bought this one because I enjoyed the short story "The Paladin of the Lost Hour" just that much in another short story collection (one by very many authors) and wanted to read more of Ellison. I have to say, I'm disappointed. Most of the stories were a disappointment of one sort or another, and some of the cute text tricks were downright annoying to read. Spiralling tiny text on a page? Annoying. Just saying. Maybe I'm just not hip enough to appreciate what he was trying to do, but oh well.
* Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman. A good solid Gaiman collection. I felt like the poems in this collection were particularly good. I may have more to say on it when I've got the book right in front of me.
* The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett (reread). Ah, discworld, how I love thee. There aren't very many funny books which can make me actually laugh aloud, but Pratchett manages. I'm working on getting Todd hooked on these, too. Fwahaha.

In progress:
* Lisey's Story by Stephen King. I picked this up the other day and raced through 277 pages in one day, so I'd say I'm happy with it. This right here? This is why I read Stephen King. Good, solid story-telling and characters. Cell was one of the worst books I read all last year, so I was a little wary about picking up any new King. He really is hit and miss, though, and it looks like this one will be hit. Thank goodness. Of course, I can't be absolutely certain until I get to the end and see what he's done with it...
* The Orphan's Tales Vol. I: In the Night Garden by Catherynne M. Valente (also known in these parts as [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna). I'm so thrilled that my library finally had a copy of this available! It's been checked out (overdue, rather often) forever, it seems.t I've been drilling through story layers eagerly, and I'm sure this one will be finished off very soon indeed. I already want more...
* The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett (reread). Unfortunately, this book seems to have gone walkies on me. I know I had it in the car day before yesterday, and I was nearly through it again... and now I just can't find it. Gunyarg. I need to call it forth from the depths of Cis-clutter before Todd finishes the first discworld book at least.

I've also been catching up on my Asimov's sci-fi reading. I've got a helluva lot of magazines from my subscription which I never got around to cracking open, and they're falling before my might now. Also also picking up and putting down Indian home cooking by Suvit Saran and Stephanie Lyness - it's one of those cookbooks packed with information, so it really is readable in bits and pieces.
