Study: Blogging Still Infrequent

Whaddaya know. We've got a niche.

finished Bel Canto - the ending left me feeling pretty deflated, though I expect that was intended. Still, it was an enjoyable read, and I would recommend it to someone else (who wasn't feeling particularly low at the moment, anyway).

Todd pulled an all-nighter working on work. I helped some, but there's only so much I can do. Which is why I'm cracking open the books and starting to really learn JavaScript (with a better book than that crappy Wilton one... I hate that book with an abiding passion). More skills == more useful == more work == more money... this could go on and on. It would help if I actually liked JavaScript, mind you, but I realize its functionality for some of the things I want to do, and so it goes and so it goes.

I hope it rains. And rains. And rain. A nice warm rain that makes what little green is out there look even greener.

Feeling off-kilter and not quite myself today. Hope I cut that out soon.

Dialogue can be one of the most difficult areas for a writer to master. When to use it, when not to use it- how to phrase things in an interesting manner- what to say when you've said 'said' entirely too many times...

...

Bearing in mind what you have learned from these resources, write a short effective dialogue between two characters.

I've been working very sporadically on a short story for some time, and since one of its main features (in my mind, at least) is dialogue, I thought I'd drag it out and dust it off for this exercise. I considered writing some background to the world this is set in, or the characters, or the overall plot of the story, but eh... effective dialogue should clear up some of that. It came out far more descriptive and less talk-y than I expected. It figures; tell a girl to write dialogue, and she'll write something else. Ah well. I still like it well enough.

Disagree with someone on a political issue? Just call your opponents terrorists! It's the Bush administration way!

A while ago, I picked up a copy of 3D world magazine, because it came with a free full edition of WorldBuilder 2.3, which is a really powerful and incredibly nifty program to make, well, worlds. Really cool 3D scenes. I was all about it. I even stepped through the tutorial, and got the scene in the tutorial made by following directions very, very carefully. Time passed, I got a new computer, and I just discovered the disc laying around and re-installed the program. "What the heck," thinks Cislyn, "I'll play around with it a little. I don't need no steenkin' magazine."

What.Ever.

I can't figure out how to do the MOST basic things. I know I should redo the tutorial and read the manual and things, but dear god, not being able to do anything, and I do mean anything (rendering a small sphere was utterly beyond me - everything was utterly beyond me) is really intimidating! Bryce is complicated, but geeeez man, the controls make some sort of intuitive sense to look at them. I'm way too intimidated to "play" with this program. I'll have to freakin' study it. Blah.
